Want to go green & save some green this Easter? Try filling your kids basket with recycled paper instead of the plastic Easter grass from the stores. Shred colorful junk mail, flyers, & your child’s old school papers for an eco-friendly basket lining.
For your eggs why not skip the chemical dyes & use different colored foods to dye eggs? Purple and blues- blueberries, red cabbage, purple grape juice. Red and orange- cranberries, strawberries, carrot juice. Green and yellow- boil eggs with spinach or other chopped greens, spices like mustard and curry.
Or even use some old silk ties to make some creative and beautiful Easter eggs. I used neckties my hubby no longer wore to make ours:
- cut pieces of the tie (or other silk material) and wrap around each egg (printed side facing egg)
- then wrap them with a piece of old t-shirt, sheet, or pillowcase
- secure with a rubber band or twist tie
- boil the eggs in water with 3 Tbs white vinegar (10- 15 mins. or simmer for 20 mins.)
…and voila, you have unique & stylish Easter eggs!

And forget all that sugary candy- opt for healthier snacks, small toys and plush animals, and even some fun toothbrushes. However you choose to celebrate Easter, have fun and cherish the moments with loved ones!
